Care Guide

How to care for your Tinka jewellery

All Tinka pieces are anti-tarnish coated and waterproof. That said, a little care makes them last significantly longer. Here is everything you need to know.

What you can do without worry

  • Wear during daily commute, office, and casual outings
  • Wear in light rain or humidity
  • Wear while washing hands
  • Layer multiple pieces together

What to avoid

  • Perfume and deodorant: Spray first, wear jewellery after. Alcohol in fragrance is the fastest way to break down any coating.
  • Chlorinated water: Remove before swimming in a pool. Seawater is fine for brief exposure but rinse after.
  • Sleeping in jewellery: Friction against fabric accelerates wear. Remove before bed.
  • Skincare products: Lotions, serums, and sunscreen can react with plating over time. Let skincare absorb fully before wearing jewellery.
  • Gym and heavy sweat: Sweat itself is fine, but gym equipment friction on bracelets and rings causes mechanical wear.

Cleaning your pieces

  1. Wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth after each wear
  2. For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth (plain water only) and pat dry immediately
  3. Never use jewellery cleaning solutions, toothpaste, baking soda, or ultrasonic cleaners on plated pieces
  4. Never scrub — gentle pressure only

Storage

  • Store in the Tinka pouch that came with your order, or any soft cloth pouch
  • Store pieces separately — metal-on-metal contact causes micro-scratches
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and humidity (not a bathroom shelf)
  • Chains: store flat or hang — do not coil tightly

When to rest a piece

If you notice any roughness on the surface or very early colour change, rest the piece for a week and clean it gently. This is not tarnishing — it is surface residue from skincare or products. A microfibre wipe usually restores it.

If the piece genuinely discolours within 90 days of normal wear, it falls under our Tinka Guarantee. WhatsApp us a photo with your order number and we will replace it.
